Fall Doo Wop Cavalcade and An Intimate Evening with Priscilla Presley

Fall Doo Wop

The structure of Doo Wop music, popular in the 1950s and ‘60s, generally featured a tenor lead vocalist singing the melody of a song with a trio or quartet singing background harmony. The term “Doo Wop” is derived from the sounds made by the group as they provided that harmonic background. Although it’s been quite a while since smooth Doo Wop harmonies have echoed from subways and street corners, AMT’s latest line-up of groups are sure to be remembered by Doo Wop fans. Scheduled to appear in our Fall Doo Wop Cavalcade are The Brooklyn Bridge, The Duprees, Jay Siegel’s Tokens, Vito Picone and the Elegants and Emil Stucchio and the Classics. Line-up subject to change without notice.

An Intimate Evening with Priscilla Presley

Priscilla Presley has often been called an icon of the entertainment World. Now, in this all-new “Evening With”, Priscilla Presley is finally going to tell HER story of the years with the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley. Even though she was only fourteen years old when she met Elvis, her memories are clear and tell a fascinating tale of a young girl who, for reasons she finally explains, was someone whom Elvis wanted to know. And for years after they met, they were inseparable until his passing in 1977.

She will share film clips that have been private to her, including wedding footage, home movies, and clips from her own personal career in film, and on television in the famed series, “Dallas” on which she starred for five years. She speaks of Elvis as a husband, as a father, and the challenge of being married to the greatest rock and roll star in the world! She talks of how she coped with the attention and the “women” who always seemed to be in their life. As glamourous was her life, it was not always easy, and as Elvis got older, she had to learn how to understand all that surrounded his fame. And then when the end came, she tells, in detail, what it was like to deal with his death.

Cat Power Sings Dylan: The 1966 Royal Albert Hall Concert

Cat Power Sings Dylan: The 1966 Royal Albert Hall is a song-for-song recreation of one of the most fabled and transformative live sets of all time. Held at the Manchester Free Trade Hall in May 1966—but long known as the “Royal Albert Hall Concert” due to a mislabeled bootleg—the original performance saw Bob Dylan switching from acoustic to electric midway through the show, drawing ire from an audience of folk purists and forever altering the course of rock-and-roll. In her own rendition of that historic night, the artist otherwise known as Chan Marshall inhabited each song with equal parts conviction and grace and a palpable sense of protectiveness, ultimately transposing the anarchic tension of Dylan’s set with a warm and luminous joy. Now captured on the live album Cat Power Sings Dylan: The 1966 Royal Albert Hall Concert, Marshall’s spellbinding performance both lovingly honors her hero’s imprint on history and brings a stunning new vitality to many of his most revered songs.

All throughout Cat Power Sings Dylan: The 1966 Royal Albert Hall Concert, that rarefied intimacy with Dylan’s material illuminates every moment—from the very first seconds of the set-opening “She Belongs To Me,” Marshall creates the strangely charmed sensation of sharing songs that have lived in her heart for decades.

ASIA: The Heat of the Moment Tour with special guests Focus, Martin Turner and Curved Air

AMT is excited to welcome Asia: The Heat of The Moment Tour, headlined by Asia and also featuring Focus, Martin Turner ex Wishbone Ash and Curved Air and MC’d by artist Roger Dean. Asia was the biggest selling album of 1982, number 1 on Billboard for 9 weeks and pioneers of the MTV era! Downes’ brand new iteration of Asia first began to evolve last Summer, at the concert held in memory of late lead singer, songwriter and bassist, John Wetton (King Crimson, Roxy Music, Uriah Heep, Wishbone Ash, UK, Asia, John Wetton Band, Icon). Downes invited old friend John Mitchell (It Bites, Frost*, Lonely Robot, Kino, John Wetton Band, Icon) and new-comer Harry Whitley to join him on stage to celebrate Wetton’s life by performing some of the classic Asia hits. Such was the uproarious reception to their set, that Downes wondered if something magical was beginning to take shape.

Downes’ new-look Asia will once again feature Mitchell on guitars and Whitley on lead vocal and bass. The quartet will be made complete by the addition of Virgil Donati (UK, Southern Sons, Steve Vai, Allan Holdsworth) on drums. The tour will also feature sets from other classic acts, Focus, Martin Turner and Curved Air. All three support acts boast their founder bandleaders and have deservedly attained the status of legend.

Formed in 1970, Curved Air are one of the founders of progressive rock and a retrospective collection of their most influential and ground-breaking material is currently in the planning stages. Sonja Kristina (vocals) and Kirby Gregory (guitar) will treat audiences to an acoustic set featuring some of the band’s most memorable musical moments. They will be joined by violinist Grzegorz Gadziomski.

Each performance on the tour will be MC’d by legendary artist Roger Dean. For so many, Dean’s artwork is synonymous with the music of the time and stands to represent the very best of British rock music.
