Though country singer Rodney Atkins didn’t get his first guitar until one Christmas in high school, he took to the instrument instantly and was soon playing anywhere he could around his Cumberland Gap, Tennessee, Rodney-graphic home. While at college at Tennessee Tech, Rodney used the opportunity to go into Nashville as often as he could, and by the time he graduated, he was starting to make himself known as a performer in the area.

With a few more years of performing and recording under his belt, Rodney soon garnered six #1 hits from his first three albums. “With any successful song, you’ve got to sit back and ask yourself, why did this song connect?” Rodney said. “With a lot of songs, the approach is about how perfect things are or how messed up things are — it’s one or the other. For me, real life is the ups and downs, and if I can, I like to get both sides of that in a song.”

Those sentiments are found in many of Rodney’s best known songs, including “Honesty (Write Me a List),” “Watching You,” “If You’re Going Through Hell (Before the Devil Even Knows),” “These Are My People,” “Farmer’s Daughter,” and “Take a Back Road.”

Rodney Atkins will make his AMT debut on Wednesday, March 20. Country artists Josh Thompson and Tyler Farr will open for Rodney, providing a full night of top-notch country music for area fans.

John Denver was an American folk singer and songwriter who became one of the most popular singers of the 1970s. By 1969, he had released his first album, Rhymes and Reasons, which included the hit song “Leaving on a Jet Plane.” His breakthrough album, Poems, Prayers and Promises, came out in 1971 and contained the single “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” The string of hits became virtually ceaseless after that, including “Rocky Mountain High,” “Sunshine on My Shoulders,” “Annie’s Song,” “Back Home Again,” “Thank God I’m a Country Boy,” and “I’m Sorry/Calypso.”

John Denver passed away in October of 1997. In the years since, there have been a number of tribute acts that haveclip_image0011-300x168 kept his music alive, but never before has there been a production of this caliber, presented by his estate. For the first time in fifteen years, audiences are experiencing John Denver in concert, performing hit songs from throughout his career.

The concert features projected video of Denver performing, backed live by former members of his touring band and an accompanying string section, which includes legendary saxophonist, Jim Horn. “We’re playing the songs along with him, note for note, to his video,” said Horn, who was with Denver on and off from 1978 to 1995. “I think people will really enjoy seeing some old footage of John… it will bring back a lot of memories.”

The tour kicked off February 1, and fans of all ages have been raving about the experience, saying:

– “Feels like John is here with us and brings back clear joyful memories of the two actual times I saw him live at the Garden and Nassau Coliseum in the mid 70s!”

– “For one night, he was with us again!!! What a wonderful show!”

– “Loved, loved the show tonight. For a while John was alive again up there for me”

A two time Grammy Award winner and member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, John Denver recorded and released around 300 songs, 200 of which he composed. He had four #1 hits, was the first American to perform in the People’s Republic of China, and was honored by the State of Colorado when his hit “Rocky Mountain High” was selected as their state song.

Tap any member of The Time Jumpers on the shoulder and the face that turns to greet you will be that of one who’s made major contributions to the richness and vigor of country music.

The current edition of The Time Jumpers includes 11 members, each a master of his/her instrument. They include the evening’s Special Guest Vince Gill (vocals, electric, and acoustic guitars,) “Ranger Doug” Green of TimeJumpers_2012_2 Riders In The Sky (vocals, acoustic rhythm guitar,) Paul Franklin (steel guitar,) Brad Calbin (upright bass,) Larry Franklin (fiddle,) Andy Reiss (electric guitar,) Dawn Sears (vocals,) Kenny Sears (vocals, fiddle,) Joe Spivey (fiddle, vocals,) Jeff Taylor (accordion, piano,) and Billy Thomas (drums, vocals.)

The band’s current, self-titled release on Rounder Records has been nominated for two Grammy Awards — Best Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group—Country, and Best Country Album. Just recently, The Time Jumpers were named one of the artists in the Nashville Scene’s 13th Annual Country Music Critics’ Poll. The band is featured in both the Album and Duos and Groups categories.

The Time Jumpers was established in Nashville in 1998 by a group of first-rate studio musicians who wanted to spend some spare time jamming with their equally gifted buddies. The notion of building a rabidly devoted following was the last thing on their minds, but that’s exactly what happened. As word spread along Music Row that something special was happening, big stars began dropping by, some to sit in with the band, others just to enjoy the vast array of country, swing, jazz and pop standards The Time Jumpers rejoiced in playing.
