Christmas in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, begins with Central PA’s largest Christmas show at American Music Theatre. This year we are excited to present, “Joy to the World” live on stage November 5 through December 30. Our amazing 2024 Christmas show is filled with spiritual and secular songs as well as live music performed by the AMT band – all beautifully framed in meticulously adorned sets.
A Taste of Our Christmas Show at American Music Theatre
Church bells ring as Act I opens to reveal a quaint American town set in the mid-century. The hustle and bustle of the season takes place in a town square featuring many shops and homes decorated for Christmas. We follow two families into their homes and observe as they enjoy their own family traditions. From letter writing to Santa and baking cookies to songs around the fireplace and Christmas prayers, the scene is set for a magical Christmas. On main street, folks are still searching for last minute gifts as the scene shifts to a department store where shoppers abound. A glamorous winter gala is revealed and the town gathers for an evening of entertainment and fun.
In Act II, sounds of jingle bells abound as Santa appears. With elves close behind, we get a sneak peek of the magic that happens while families are fast asleep on Christmas Eve. Colorful elves join Santa as they gleefully deliver gifts with song and dance. As the elves admire the picturesque town, they wonder what life would be like if perhaps they should stay? They begin to explore alternate professions in a “larger than life” musical sequence. Inspired by Santa and the joy of giving, the elves decide they could never give up their elf-ly duties and conclude there’s no place like the North Pole!
Then, it’s Christmas day and all come out to attend a children’s nativity play. A simple courtyard scene transforms into a large-scale cathedral where we experience carols and hand bells as the townspeople continue along their way. Beautiful, concert-style performances transform the space with emotional sacred arrangements and show-stopping moments.
