This Sunday – It’s The Charlie Daniels Band
“Few individuals have symbolized the South in popular culture as directly and indelibly as Charlie Daniels” — Encyclopedia of Southern Culture. Born in rural North Carolina, Charlie was raised on a musical diet that included Pentecostal gospel, local bluegrass, rhythm & blues and country music. All those great musical genres have played a part in the enduring Charlie Daniels success story. Charlie won a Grammy in 1979 for “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.” Thirty-three years later, Charlie has the distinction of being nominated for an ACM award for Vocal Event of the Year for his performance (along with George Jones, who will appear at AMT on June 3) in Aaron Lewis’ song, “Country Boy.” Congratulations, Charlie!
