Before Adkins became the household country music name he is today, he was born in a small town in Louisiana where the population is under 1000 and his parent’s were high school sweethearts. He was introduced to music when his father taught him how to play the guitar at a young age. Once he was in high school he joined his school’s gospel group, the New Commitments and quickly fell in love with music and faith.
After graduating high school Adkins attended Louisiana Tech University with a football scholarship. Unfortunately, Adkins suffered a knee injury and dropped out of university before playing a football game. At this point Adkins began taking on numerous random jobs before working toward his true passion…a career in music!
He began his music career in honky tonk bars where he would play covers and originals on his guitar as well as with other bands when possible. After a short time he moved to Nashville. Luckily in Nashville Adkins met Rhonda Forlaw, an executive for Arista Records. After Forlaw introduced Adkins to several different friends in the music industry, Scott Hendricks signed him on the spot with Capitol Nashville. From there Adkins steadily rose to the top.
