Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2014: And the Nominees Are…

nominees - red carpet entranceThe annual list of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees was announced on Wednesday, October 16.  The 2014 nominees include eight first-timers and eight more who have been nominated in the past.

First-Time Nominees

The legendary performers who received their first nomination are Nirvana, Linda Ronstadt, Peter Gabriel, The Replacements, YES, Link Wray, The Zombies, and Hall and Oates.  Local fans had the great fortune to be part of a sold-out, rocked-out crowd when Hall and Oates performed at AMT in 2009.

Repeat Nominees

Repeat nominees include KISS, LL Cool J, N.W.A., Cat Stevens, Deep Purple, The Meters, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, and Chic.

Requirements

The Rock Hall requires that artists wait 25 years after their first commercial recording to become eligible for induction.  Inductees are voted on by 600 Members of the Rock Hall including all previous living inductees, musicians, historians, journalists, critics, and music industry personnel.  Fans also have a say in who’s selected – last year the public was given the ability to vote in an online fan poll.  To show your support and vote for your favorite nominees, click here.

Inductees will be announced in December, and the induction ceremony will be held in New York in April.
