More Than Music: How AMT Gives Back
American Music Theatre hosts both touring concerts and original shows. Located in Lancaster County, AMT features a 1,600-seat theatre which hosts more than 300 live performances a year. When it comes to a great show, AMT is the place to go.
But, AMT isn’t just about music. It’s also about building community. A big part of that is giving back to the community. These are just a few ways AMT focuses on more than music and gives back throughout the year:
Annual United Disabilities Services Night
United Disabilities Services (UDS) is a nonprofit organization which focuses on helping people live safely and more independently in their own homes. Their services are geared towards the aging, veterans, and people with disabilities. With several services, programs, and resources available, UDS is a beacon of hope for people with disabilities in Central PA and beyond.
Throughout the year, UDS hosts a variety of events. These events include training, fundraisers, and outings. Once a year, they partner with AMT to hold an event at the theatre.
Ticket Donation Requests
One of the biggest ways AMT can give back is by providing complimentary tickets to nonprofit organizations. Many opt for doing raffles or auctions for charity. Due to the amount of requests received throughout the year, AMT is no longer able to accept donation requests over the phone or in person, however.

Christmas Show Partner
Giving back has no specific timeframe. However, the time leading up to Christmas is well-known for the general feeling of goodwill and the “spirit of giving”. Every year, AMT partners with a charity for our annual Christmas Show. Last year, it was the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. This year, we’ve decided to partner with them again.
The Central PA Food Bank is a non-profit organization. Their focus is to reduce hunger across central Pennsylvania. The Food Bank partners with over 900 agencies to distribute more than 48 million pounds of food and grocery products every year. These combined efforts help to directly feed thousands of hungry families throughout the area.
AMT will be hosting a food drive throughout November and December. We’ll be challenging ourselves internally by holding a competition between departments. We also encourage our patrons to donate as well. Collection bins will be located in the AMT lobby. So, when you come to enjoy The 2017 Christmas Show: Home for the Holidays, don’t forget to bring along some donations for the food drive!
This year’s most-needed items are non-perishable and rich in protein. These items are just a few of the top recommendations from the Food Bank’s website:
- Peanut Butter (to-go size)
- Shelf Stable 100% Fruit Juice
- Canned Chicken and Tuna
- Single Serve Macaroni and Cheese
- Shelf Stable Milk 8 oz
- Individual Fruit Cups
If you’re not sure what to donate, but still want to help, feel free! Financial contributions will also be accepted and a go a long way. One dollar donated to the Food Bank allows them to provide six meals for those in need.
In 2016, AMT and our patrons were able to donate 3,155 pounds of food products by the end of November. Help us sail past this amount and make an even bigger impact in 2017!
