Dance Explosion Blog – 7/21/11

Here we are with just a little over one week left until opening night, and the place is buzzin’!  This week, the AMT stage and surrounding areas are filled with constant motion as scores of people work toward putting on an amazing show.

Even a lunch break isn’t a break – dancers are still practicing with their partners, singers are perfecting their songs, the crew is experimenting with new set pieces and lighting and video designs, costumes are being fitted and it feels as if we’re in the middle of a bee hive!

Carl Rajotte, a frequent Co-Choreographer/Co-Director with Andrea McCormick, returned from The Palace Theatre in New Hampshire to work with the dancers and teach them lots of incredible dance combinations.

Dance Captain Missy Clayton told us that in addition to learning Carl’s new choreography, the cast also worked on a Swing section and learned a Tap routine, blocked dances and spaced themselves with the set, completed an entire Latin dance section, and even took on the challenging original choreography performed by Fred Astaire during a tribute number to “Puttin’ on The Ritz.”

Phew!  Like we said, the place is buzzin’!
