15 Seasons … And Counting
Born from a dream and built on the historic 7-acre lot of The Willows Restaurant & Motel, three local entrepreneurs broke ground for American Music Theatre in September 1996. The comprehensive project required a city of construction professionals who worked around the clock, seven days a week. In less than seven months, there stood a 55,000 square foot, 1,600-seat theatre with a breathtaking lobby, 
state-of-the-art sound and lighting for the 56-foot stage, and extra wide aisles with over-sized seats to ensure the most comfortable and intimate entertainment experience in the area. The Theatre soon emerged as one of Lancaster’s most popular destinations, welcoming visitors from all over the country by staging critically acclaimed Original Shows and hosting some of the world’s most popular celebrity performers. Today the stage is set for a different type of groundbreaking as we embark on a monumental 15th season.
Our curtain rose for the first time on April 12, 1997, with the debut of our first Original Show, “From Branson to Broadway.” In addition, AMT played host to five celebrity shows that year. Each year since then, the list of world-renowned celebrities has continued to grow. Tony Bennett, Ringo Starr, Bill Cosby, Willie Nelson, B. B. King, Michael Buble, Melissa Etheridge, The Beach Boys and Ray Charles are just a few of the hundreds of powerhouse celebrity entertainers who have graced our stage over the years.
Throughout this celebratory 15th season, American Music Theatre will continue to offer the highest quality year-round entertainment to our guests, highlighting exceptional talent and superb music in a family-friendly atmosphere designed to appeal to audiences of all ages. As it was when we opened our doors for the first time in 1997, our mission remains the same… to give our guests an entertainment experience they won’t soon forget.
